Yes, you are all correct. She darned the edges of the platforms to give them a slightly larger area and better traction.
Eric the dancers are standing on a carpet so she wasn't going out on the ice to dance in pointe shoes.
Paul D, the elastic is occasionally sewn at the mid point of the shoe to hold the sole in her arch to present a more pleasing line of the foot - if the shanks can't be pre-arched. I think it's a European thing.

ReplyDeleteShe darned the platform (toe) and she swen the elastic band to hold the heel at the mid -point of the quarter panel .
