  1. The box contains Rosin. Dancers grind their shoes in it to increase friction with the floor.

  2. The ballerina is standing in a box of Rosin !

    Why ....
Ballerinas use rosin to help rough up the bottoms of their shoes and provide some grip for wood flooring.
Rosin is a solid form of resin found in pine trees and some plants. It has a strong friction-increasing capacity which makes it suitable for using to increase grip and control.

A warning though using too much rosin as it will clump up and prevent you from being able to turn. Mmmmmm Bummer!
Mmmmm Nice picture Jill.... Swan Lake?

  3. It's rosin, to minimise the slickness of walking or improving traction on her shoes. They use rosin in baseball all the time, to keep pitchers' hands dry so the ball won't slip out of his hands.

  5. This is Rosin, a natural resin obtained from pines.

Many ballet dancers use it to reduce slippage, both on stage and in the ballet school.
