Those "gripper soles" sound a lot like the soles in the shoes I wear to work, from a brand called "Shoes for Crews." These soles are like tiny reverse-waffle patterned rubber that has very high traction for oily and wet floors. SFC claims to have the best slip resistence in the industry, and I do have to agree. I don't know if Gepetto might want to ask SFC for samples of their soles to see how it would compare to what he now uses for the gripper soles.
