Angle Rejects Abortion For Rape Victims: "Sometimes God Has A Plan"

U.S. Senate nominee Sharron Angle (R-NV) has been trying to steer clear of unfriendly media in the hopes that her extreme views don't imperil her chances of getting to Washington. As the New York Times reports:

In a state where reporters say they can knock at the Governor's Mansion and say hello, people are wondering whether Ms. Angle's "no comments" - except to friendly radio hosts - are indicative of something bigger. The reporters said they suspect that Ms. Angle, who has said that the Environmental Protection Agency should be eliminated and that Social Security should be "transitioned out," is afraid of running into the same interview buzz saw as Rand Paul's Senate campaign did in Kentucky.

The problem is not so much with the media but with Angle's philosophy. She can avoid media outlets all she wants, but ultimately, her antiquated and extremist understanding of how society should operate will be exposed — one way or another.

Angle was recently asked by Bill Manders, a conservative talk radio personality in Reno, if her anti-choice position also meant that she opposed abortion in cases of rape and incest. Angle replied that she was against abortion in all circumstances, adding that whatever happened to a woman that would compel her to seek an abortion, "God has a plan and a purpose for each one of our lives."

Manders: Is there any reason at all for an abortion?

Angle: Not in my book.

Manders: So, in other words, rape and incest would not be something?

Angle: You know, I'm a Christian and I believe that God has a plan and a purpose for each one of our lives and that he can intercede in all kinds of situations and we need to have a little faith in many things.

Personal Comment: One can only hope that Nevadans are not ready for our state to be represented in the US Senate or elsewhere nationally by the likes of this far-right wing-nut.

  1. I agree with you on that. I would not want some kid having the stigma of knowing he/she came into this world because a crime was committed against his/her mother and no one was allowed to do anything about it.
