Pointe shoe quiz September 23, 2010

Who is the maker of this dancer’s pointes?

  1. Looking at the sole of the raised foot, there is a 3/4 sole. Looking through a few different pages, I saw the closest model to the one pictured is Bloch Alpha.

According to DanceDepot.com: "The Alpha by Bloch features the new revolutionary 3/4 outsole design. This shoe is aimed at the advanced student and professional market. The purpose of this new design is to offer a shoe that allows maximum bend at the arch, without compromising support. Fully developed foot and ankle strength is advised."

Since a 3/4 sole is not that common, and the only other shoes I see are full soled or one split soled, my answer is the Bloch Alpha.

  4. Sorry Paul, the shoes aren't Gaynors.

The correct answer is as Eric and Paul D answered, Bloch Alpha pointes, which are identifiable by the distinctive 3/4 outer sole.

  5. I just imagined answering this quiz whilst in the same position on the 'BDSM Fall Training Pt II' picture you posted, Jill. I'd be half dead by now!... would I want to get them wrong? maybe...

    Paul.
